Why Schedule an Ultrasound Before an Abortion?

Why Schedule an Ultrasound Before an Abortion?

When Destiny finally had the courage to look at the pregnancy test sitting next to the  bathroom sink, she was devastated to see two lines.  There was no way to stay in denial any longer.  That nausea and extreme fatigue she had been feeling could have just been the flu.  Right?  Wrong.  She had known all along the possibility of a pregnancy was very real.

At least I’m pretty early, she reasoned.  I will just find an abortion clinic and get the abortion pill.  She happened to walk into ACPC Women’s Clinic to see if they could schedule an abortion for her as soon as possible. read more

Fetal Development – Week 2

Fetal Development – Week 2

We get a lot of questions about fetal development at ACPC Women’s Clinic.  Our patients are usually anxious to figure out their due date and to see what their baby actually looks like.  A woman is usually about 4 weeks along before she even realizes she is pregnant.  There can be some confusion around determining the due date.  Here’s why:

Most women are surprised when the nurse says she is already 4 or 5 weeks along even though she had just missed her period within the last couple of days.  This is because obstetricians count weeks of pregnancy from the first day of a woman’s last period (LMP – Last Menstrual Period).  They do this because there is no way to determine exactly when conception occurred.  To determine the age of your unborn child since fertilization (conception), use this table and just subtract two weeks. read more

3 Reasons an Ultrasound is Important

3 Reasons an Ultrasound is Important

You may be wondering if you need an ultrasound, especially if you are unsure how you feel about your pregnancy or if you are still weighing your options.

Here’s 3 reasons an ultrasound at ACPC Women’s Clinic may be important for you:

1.  A positive pregnancy test is usually the first indication you are pregnant, but it can’t really tell you much about your pregnancy.  Only an ultrasound will confirm that your pregnancy is viable (that your pregnancy is growing where it should).

2.  An ultrasound will tell you how far along you are.  This is important when you are considering different options.  Note:  If you are considering abortion, you will need to know how far along you are in order to determine which abortion procedure you will need.  Our medical staff can also provide information on abortion procedures and risks, however, we do not perform or refer for abortion. read more
